Our Story
We are a small town organization ready to make a BIG difference! We are located in the town of Brookville, Indiana. We are NOT the County Pound. Our organization is completely comprised of volunteers. The FCHS has no paid staff and we receive no financial support from the state or local government. Every dollar that you donate to the FCHS goes directly to improving the lives of animals in our community! We are considered a rescue, and not an “intake” shelter. The cats that we house come as strays from around our county, as well as cats from the community that are sick or injured. It is part of our mission to find the right forever home for every animal that we encounter in our facility!
We are pleased that our shelter space doubles as a site for monthly spay/neuter transports and for adoption events. Our primary focus is to reduce the number of animals born in Franklin County, reduce the number of animals entering local shelters, and eliminate the practice of killing healthy animals for convenience. We strive to educate our community and improve the quality of the lives of animals within Franklin County and beyond.
MISSION STATEMENT
The Franklin County Humane Society is a registered 501.c.3 nonprofit organization. Our members are a committed, thoughtful group of volunteers who provide assistance for unwanted, lost, injured and/or neglected animals. We strive to educate our community about responsible pet ownership. Through donations collected and awarded grants we actively support pet owners of Franklin County, and offer access to low cost/high quality spay and neuter options from our facility. We actively seek forever homes for each and every animal that comes through our facility utilizing tools such as social media, online pet sites, partnerships with other local rescues and monthly adoption events.
